1 Year Anniversary Announcement: Carlingford Line Extravaganza

Ladies and gentlemen, August marks a milestone for this blog and challenge. It's the one year anniversary of Completing Sydney!

To celebrate one year of mediocrity, I thought I'd dig into Sydney's most mediocre train line - the Carlingford Line.

The Carlingford Line - What's all that about?

For those not in the know, the Carlingford line (aka T6) is a train line running through a rather small portion of Western Sydney. It starts at its interchange station of Clyde and peters along until it terminates around 7km up the road at Carlingford.

Once it gets to Carlingford, the driver gets out, walks to the back of the train, and starts the journey back to Clyde.

The majority of the line is a single rail track, limiting the number of services to one or two an hour. Most locals don't bother and use other means of transport.

This line was once meant to be improved as part of the "Parramatta to Chatswood" rail project. These plans were then scrapped, the route was reduced to "Epping to Chatswood" (which was recently converted to metro) and the poor Carlingford line remained obscure and, frankly, crappy.

Now, the state government is planning on tearing the thing out and putting light rail in its place.

Why am I talking about this dumb train line?

Well, to celebrate my one year milestone, I'm going to feature all of the fine suburbs along this line. I've been meaning to cover this line before they go ahead and rip it out, so now seems like the perfect opportunity.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll have an increased posting schedule, posting Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday until all seven suburbs of the Carlingford Line are up:
My only guarantee is that this will be so exciting that you'll get a nosebleed. Don't miss it.

  1. I'm so happy you're giving this line the full treatment. It's probably the best thing to ever happen around the T6!
